ELA 9 Year-End Assessment

  • Prove or Disprove, using supports/examples, that you have grown as a learner through the ELA class activities?
    I feel like I have grown as a learner because I am more aware of what I’m doing. Some examples are, I feel like more work has more content than before it just had the bare minimum. Also, I don’t mind talking in front of the class but if I have to I will, sure it’s not my cup of tea. Something that supports that is my blog you could scroll through it and see how much more content I added to the posts.
  • You have completed speaking, writing, and visual representations in this ELA;

Which of these comes easily to you? Give an example and explain why this strand of ELA is easier for you?
A- The activity that comes most easily to me is writing I can get settled down and work without any complications. An example is my Outsiders re-write I did enjoy it. I don’t know why it’s easier for me I guess it’s because I can express myself freely without worrying about anyone judging me too much.
Which of these do you struggle most with and what about it causes that? Give an example.
B- I struggle the most with speaking like I said before it has always been something I stress out over and I tend to panic when I do try to speak in front of the class I stutter a lot.

  • Give an example of the planning/development of an assignment that you’re most proud of.
    The planning I am most proud of is the Outsiders Re-Write plan because I was able to cross off certain things that would mess up the storyline and also add stuff I didn’t put down, doing this type of stuff makes me feel in control.
  • Formative feedback is the same as summative except you get it before you finalize/submit the assignment. How did it help you improve the quality and level of work to get your feedback during your work instead of it? Give an example to support.
    When I got feedback for my Re-Write, I felt like I was just not putting my full focus on it so when I did, felt like I have done something I didn’t even know I could do.
  • Did you reach or test your potential in this ELA class?
    This Ela year was testing my skills in writing sure we had guidelines to help me but in everything, I felt like this was a test on my skills as a student.
  • Do you find your level of self-awareness in your skills and abilities in ELA has improved at all over the last year? Are you reflective and conscious of what is expected of you and what level you accomplish?
    My self-awareness of my skills has improved drastically. I know what was expected of me this year and a little bit next year.
  • Explain whether you felt sufficiently challenged in your ELA work this year. Give an example of a task or project that tested the limits of your abilities.
    I felt challenged this year which was good because it helped improved my skills a lot as a writer. An example which challenged me was the last presentation of the year where we had to pick a topic and explain how to survive in it.

A9 CC: The Majestic Emotions Representation

During class, we watched a movie set in the 60’s about a man named Peter Appleton, who is a film writer and he gets labeled as a communist. He loses everything and then one night, he gets drunk, and he crashes, and he wakes up on a beach with amnesia, and he doesn’t remember his past and a man finds him and brings him to a small town, and everyone who sees him says he looks familiar. But Peter doesn’t know what they are talking about, so the story is about him finding out who he is. So apparently there is a problem with my picture it won’t load I don’t know what’s wrong.


  1. Ashes to Ashes: So during this scene, Peter is shown sitting at a desk and three men are discussing a movie Ashes to Ashes, and later he goes to his other movie premiere with his girlfriend who is an actor.
    Color: The reason why I chose this color is because he was happy with his life, he had everything, great job, a girlfriend so that would make anyone happy.
  2. Communist: Later he gets labeled as a communist which back then is a major political concern and then he loses everything meaning his job and girlfriend.
    Color: I chose this color because he is angry because he was labeled as a communist and he lost everything, so he is mad at the world.
  3. Forgets Everything: He then gets mad and goes out to drink then he drives and crashes into a bridge and falls into a river and ends up smacking his head onto a cement pillar knocking himself out.
    Color: This color represents emptiness and dull, and that’s why I chose it for this scene because Peter forgets who he is.
  4. Washed up: He later then wakes up, and he has no memory of who he is but he gets brought to a town by an old guy, and everyone says he looks familiar.
    Color: When he wakes up he is scared and lost, confused until a man finds him and brings him to town and he still shaken and scared that’s why I chose dark purple which is to represent scared.
  5. Dinner: He is then brought to a dinner where he gets served food, and he meets the doctor who patches him up.
    Color: The reason why I chose this color is because when he is severed food he is excited to eat
  6. Doctors then nap: He goes to the doctors office, and he gets a grasp on might have happened, but the lines are still blurry.
    Color: The reason why I chose the brown is that on the emotion wheel I had it was supposed to represent anxiousness because he is going to be told how he is holding up
  7. Finds Father: His “father” approaches him and says who he is, and then he meets everyone who knew Luke/Peter.
    Color: I chose this light blue color because to me it reminds me of the sky and how happy I feel when I see the sky with very little or no clouds in the sky
  8. Meets Adele: He then meets the doctors daughter Adele who was Luke girlfriend before he left to fight.
    Color: When Peter meets Adele he is nervous and yet from what he hears they use to be in love.
  9. Runs with Adele: Later he is out with Adele, and they list off a bunch of movies, and that is the only thing Peter/Luke remembers.
  10. First Kiss: Adele and Luke/Peter run to a lighthouse and Adele has a hiccup attack, and she said only way she could fix it was a kiss
  11. Party: The town holds a welcome back party for Luke/Peter and everyone has a great time
  12. Jazz: during the party Luke/Peter is asked to play piano, and he starts to panic because he doesn’t know how to so he starts to play jazz
  13. Building The Majestic: When Luke/Peter gets back home from the party Henry introduces the idea of re-building The Majestic
  14. Adele and Peter together: After being at the town for a while Luke/Peter get back together with Adele
  15. Town Helps: After gathering supplies for the rebuilding the town decides to pitch in and lend a helping hand
  16. Grand Re-opening: The Majestic finally is opened again, and the whole town comes to watch movies at it again
  17. Henry has a heart attack: During one of Peter’s movies he realizes who he actually is, and then Henry has a heart attack during a movie, and he missed a reel, and everyone freaks out
  18. Henry dies: Later after henry’s attack his body starts to shut down, and Luke/Peter says his final goodbye
  19. FBI takes him: During Henry’s funeral, Peter is being stalked by the FBI, and he is found, and the truth about his is out, and everyone doesn’t know what the think of him anymore
  20. Peter stands up for himself: Peter is brought to court and during that court holding he stands up for himself who was wrongly accused
  21. Peter reunites with the town: Peter then heads back to the town where he was dragged from, and everyone meets him again, and they are proud of him, and he meets Adele and starts a family with her


The Outsiders Review

We are reading a book in ELA called The Outsiders and so far I like the book because I like the way the author wrote it and the smooth transition from place to place it’s very interesting, I also like the way she described the characters and made us feel connected to them and when she makes Ponyboy describe the church I can picture it perfectly.

Listen here,The reason she may not love is because you’re rushing her give her some space and let her figure stuff out on her own, if she is with another man just let them grow apart soon his trouble making personality will cause either his death and she will be free or she will see then that he is just a waste of time and she will turn to the only other person that loves her, you. If there was a magic spell like that I wouldn’t be giving advice to people like you. The best thing to do when you are like that is to give her time and just do something to get her off your mind. Please help me! Madly in love with this guy Romeo but he comes from a family that my parents absolutely hate. I don’t know what they have against this family, but I’m so afraid that if they find out that I married him, they will hate me and kick me out of their life or something. He killed my cousin Tybalt, but he only killed him because he was kind of aggressive and he killed my Romeo’s best friend. I forgave him for killing Tybalt, but then that the stupid prince banished him!! Why wouldn’t he just like make Romeo pay a fine like really, it’s kind of unnecessary. Anyway, my parents don’t know that I am already married so they are trying to make me marry this total doofus who thinks he’s really cool. His name is Paris and he thinks he is the best thing that ever happened to Verona and my dad loves him so much he wants me to marry Paris just so he can be part of the family! If he loves him so much he can marry Paris instead of me! Honestly, I would be cool with that just as long as I don’t have to because I really don’t love him. He is such a dummy, he is clumsy, he is really old like he is almost 10 years older than me! I just turned 14 and he is like 29! That’s really old and I don’t want to be seen in public with a husband who is old and dying while I am still remotely young. Most importantly, I love Romeo too much to betray him like this I might just have to kill myself to get out of this situation. What if Romeo forgets about me while he is in Mantua? What if he moves on and finds another wife instead of me?

First off, what makes him so special and I can’t answer that question because they don’t even know why they’re fighting in the first place to be honest I don’t really care. Well, if they did find out that you did secretly marry someone the worst thing they can do is kick you out cause all you have to do is live in Mantua with him, if he did kill your cousin and you forgave him that does say that you want to be with him but here’s the thing if he does end up killing one of your relatives again that’s why you should drop it. The reason why the prince put a punishment out is because your two families have been causing chaos in the streets, so he put that out to see if it will work and obviously that didn’t work, well to be honest he could have been executed. This Paris guy if he does like you just say this to him that you don’t see his reaction. This age difference, I understand that you don’t want to be with an old, smelly, dying man, nobody wants to be with that. Like i said before plan something with your friends to get you out of Verona. If you love him so much and so does he, I doubt that he will forget about you or even have an affair with someone else.

Oh, one thing the person that i killed was her cousin so I’m in hot water with her, but I hope things will blow over now I’m waiting for Fair Lawrence to come up with a plan cause he will, he knows I can’t be without her, and she can’t be without me I hope she can come up with something cope with it. Please I need you to talk me through on what to do. I need your answer NOW!


Themes of Romeo and Juliet

There are several topics I have to pick and the first topic I’m going to pick is: The Uselessness of Violence

We all know that in Romeo and Juliet people die so what the topic means is that there are more options then say take your own life meaning a series of outcomes could have been avoided then taking an act of violence. This topic relates to the play because the play has characters die to have a effect on the characters making them take their own lives in order to get out of the situation. An example would be when Romeo is out for revenge for when Tybalt killed Mercutieo and he succeeded in killing Tybalt. This event relates to the movie because the scene was violent but Romeo could have said something to Tyblat regret his decision not just kill him the  have himself regret it because he killied his spouses cousin and he knew it would affect her in anyway.

The next topic I’m going to discuss is: The Strength of Young Love

The topic is saying that when two people come together we all know that some great things can be accomplished such as Romeo and Juliet. This topic relates to Romeo and Juliet when Romeo proposes to Juliet so that there is love. A specific example is when Romeo first meets Juliet at the Capulet ball after that they were inseparable after that point in their lives even if they were destined to be enemies. This relates to the theme because it shows that they could be inseparable showing that they cared about each other even through the death of Tybalt even though romeo killed him that there shows the strength of love.

The next topic is: The Dangers of Dishonesty

This topic is saying that there will be consequences to your lying if you choose to lie instead of tell the truth, it will come around and bite you in the butt in the long run. An example is that Juliet lied to her father to protect her secret marriage with Romeo. Another example is when she declined her fathers offer for her to marry Paris and that caused him to lash out on her and nearly banishing her from the family house. This event ties into the theme because later she ends up paying the price.


The next topic is:Revenge leads to Destruction

This topic is means that if you have revenge it could lead you further into to disaster then before. this topic is found when Romeo was at the Capulet ball Tybalt saw him and was gonna confront him but his father said not at his ball. Later in the play he confronted Romeo and killed Mercutieo and that lead to his death by Romeo’s hand. This event is related to the theme because Tyblat was mad at Romeo for even showing up the ball and that lead to his death.

The last topic is: Fate often Controls Lives

This topic says that the stuff that you do could lead to the end of something bad or good, it could lead to your death or a breakthrough that is all fate guiding you. This is found all throughout the play Romeo and Juliet and all the characters were guided by fate. A specific example is when Romeo realized his fate was sealed when he killed Tyblat. this event is tied with the theme because he realized what he did was his last chance and he blew it, he was gonna be executed.

Oct 30 Five Frame Stories – speaking / representing

Hey Nate, here’s a little gift for you!

We recently completed a fairly brief formative speaking / representing activity. Each of you had pick out five images that you would then base a short story on; your five pictures had to represent aspects of the beginning, middle, and ending of your future story-to-be. The twist, though, was that I then said I was going to give your Five Frames to someone else randomly for them to develop a short story that matched the pictures you selected. It caught you all off guard, but you had a great time with it.

When you’d finished writing it out, you presented it by reading your written story aloud to the class while we followed along with the five images. After that, you went even one step further and added your audio of you reading with the images in a video file. Here’s your video that you made, then! May it be an example of your early work with speaking, writing, and representing and I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy listening to this years down the road near graduation! 🙂

2.) Some comparisons between the book “Stellaluna” and the movie “I am Sam” are that they both teach about being different and yet the same, when the birds saw Stellaluna as one of them their mother taught her like a bird but when her mother found her and taught her how to be a bat and to hang upside down and eat fruit not bugs , Sam was born with a disability so he learned from an institution so he was taught differently from other kids and with his mental capacity being age 7 he only understood up to grade 2 level so when Lucy asked him some questions he tried to change the topic because he doesn’t know the answer. When Lucy reads the book “Stellaluna” and she came across a difficult word and she tried to sound it out and she said she doesn’t know what it was Sam was also clueless and made Lucy sad so she made him read “Green eggs and Ham”.


3.) Some dynamic characters are Sam, Lucy, Rita and they all grow from knowledge and experience. Sam from being a father with a disability and he doesn’t know what he is doing but he carves out time for Lucy and he eventually becomes a good caring father fighting for Lucy to live with him again. Lucy is dynamic character because she grows in age and size, like when Sam had to work with Lucy in a baby sling and she causes all kinds of trouble, knocking things over, making people spill there coffee. Rita is a dynamic character because she goes from being a selfish person who does nothing but work and tries to spend time with her son but ends up working really late but eventually she learns to cope with Sams disability.


4.) This movie has three acts one of them, the first one is Sam raising Lucy till she is around 6-7 years old and that’s the end of scene one. Scene two is when Sam and his “Crew” are gonna give Lucy a surprise birthday party but Connor yells out that Lucy is adopted Lucy runs away, the scene ends when Mr.Turner questions Sam if he is capable of taking care of Lucy and when that scene ends it begins the, third scene which has Lucy move to a foster family and then Sam finds out where she lives and then he gets a new job to walk some dogs for money but then he runs across the foster family, and he asks to see Lucy, who runs out angry-like saying he never talks to her anymore, no letters, no nothing, but he has a letter but he ran out of room so he reads the letter out-loud and then he moves closer to Lucy just so he could see her more then usual, and of course it ends with Sam the referee of Lucy’s soccer game and she scores a goal and then he picks her up and runs in circles,then the movie ends


5.) Sam due to his disability he has the mental capacity of a seven year old but there are times he is smarter then other adults, for example when Lucy had a presentation about butterfly’s and she forgot but he stepped in and helped her, but there was this kid who was doing a presentation on arthropods such as spiders and he was having trouble but his hotshot dad wanted him to look smart but he kept helping him and the son snapped and gave up because he wants to do potato bugs


6.) Rita is Sam lawyer throughout the movie but their lives may seem different but really their not here are some examples:

  • Number one: they are both single parents
  • number two: they both have a young child
  • Number three: both are carving or trying to carve out time to see them
  • Number four: they both have a job that they are working hard to earn money


7.)When the camera rotates around like when Rebecca left Sam with Lucy when she was born the camera rotated around as if he is looking for her it made me understand on how Sam felt about his current situation, he felt scared and lost. the camera angles in the movie help you understand how he feels and has a better emotional effect then just having 2D feel to it like just the camera moving from left to right in a straight line.
